I am very excited about getting to see this book. I will first get a copy from the library to check it out, but I love your approach to sewing. Like you I am part scientist part sewist, just less accomplished.

Confidence is the first word that came to my mind also. i've always enjoyed sewing and throwing together simple dresses. i've even been known to take a sleeve from one pattern and a skirt from another and mash things together, but i thought altering sizes and coming up with a professional tailored look was beyond me. my guys looked so sharp in their Marco and Ethans and i made myself a dress that i could nurse my baby in. Thank you so much, Carla!

Even though I have been sewing for many years, there seems to be times when there is a better way to do something. Thanks for sharing.

I have to admit that I have never bought a pattern from you. I love your bias tape maker; I think it's miraculous, and so is the tutorial for doll t-shirts. I want this book and I will buy it for sure if I don't win it.

I would like to have a definitive book on sewing in my collection. I know that 'google' is my friend, but sometimes I just want to see it in my hands (ie, a book). I have 2 of your patterns waiting to be sewn up. Thanks!

So far have just sewed Jenny, but have plans, as soon as I find the perfect fabric! I loved the pattern: the directions with clear diagrams or photos, the unique tips (gluestick-basted zipper??), the non-nested patterns that I can print just a range for my size! Perfection.

Allie said...

I recently took over my mom's sewing machine and am fairly new to the world of sewing... but I am already addicted! Your website, blog, facebook page, pinterest page... I love them all. They are packed with wonderful ideas! I am dying for my own sewing room so I can hang my own periodic table of sewing elements!

I have a reference sewing book from, I think, the 1960's. My mom bought it at a yard sale. I would love to have something so relevant and detailed as this one. What a great book!

Adorable Divas said...

Where do I start when trying to say why I love SS patterns???
Comprehensive, consice, clear and thorough instructions. Everything explained in the minuetest detail. Loads of pictures and diagrams.
Carla leaves nothing for even the beginner sewer to fear, and her patterns are a delight to sew from.

My grandmother taught me to sew years ago. I lost interest for awhile in my younger years. But I came back to it and to her teaching. Unfortunately, she passed away not long after. I have inherited her sewing room or the objects in it at least. I love the Scientific Seamstress because she uses the same terms and wording as my grandmother. It's like she's teaching me again. I can only imagine how homesick I will be for her when reading this book.
